The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
